The beginning of a new year is traditionally marked with well-intended resolutions and new beginnings. We start off with the best of intentions, but then get caught up in the everyday busy-ness and find ourselves merely surviving rather than thriving. How can we ensure we stay the course for our 2020 goals?
I believe it is in finding your WHY... your purpose for doing what you are doing. When we discover our true purpose, we are motivated internally rather than externally. Intrinsic motivation is more attainable because it becomes the driving factor that ignites a fire from within, leading us to thrive. External motivation is the carrot that we constantly chase on the treadmill of life. If you are externally motivated, you are always chasing something which leads to surviving the day-to-day.
So how do we do it?
This is where you have to discover what works best for you. It's on YOU to take the first step!
In my line of work as a Facilitator/Trainer, people are inspired to work with me because they are at a period of life transition, life is out of balance in some way, they are searching for a greater sense of purpose and meaning, or they want to grow in their personal and professional development as leaders. I encourage them to reflect and dream.
Dreams give us vitality. The pursuit of dreams creates passion and energy. At different points in our life journey, we get caught up in surviving versus thriving. Purpose is living the life you were meant to live. Dreaming starts the journey.
Your dream is closely tied to your career and profession. Ideally, they are connected in some way. Oftentimes, one can fuel the other or visa versa, but it’s important to be clear on why you'e doing what you're doing... the purpose and meaning of it all.
How are you starting 2020 (a new year, a new decade) with clarity of vision and purpose? Let me know if you'd like to meet to discuss how I can help you individually or as an organization.
